Tagkour
A Close Third-Person Cyberpunk Tag & Parkour Game Concept
About the Project
TagKour is a close third-person cyberpunk parkour game concept created for the Computer Game Studies subject. The project focuses on designing a high-intensity chase experience that merges the excitement of a traditional tag game with the freedom and agility of parkour.
Game Overview
TagKour challenges players’ agility, creativity, and observation as they navigate neon-lit arenas in a dystopian cyberpunk city. Players take on roles as either the Hunter or Survivors—engaging in short, fast-paced matches filled with dynamic chases, acrobatic movement, and tactical decision-making.
Design Goal
“Creating an engaging and immersive parkour experience.” The core design goal is to build a fluid and responsive movement system that allows players to flow seamlessly across obstacles, wall-run, and vault while staying immersed in a high-stakes chase.
Game Objective
Designed for short sessions (10–15 minutes), TagKour offers quick but intense gameplay where players can compete online or experience solo challenges. Each match is played in a best-of-five format, emphasizing replayability and excitement.
Genre & Perspective
TagKour is an action parkour game built from a third-person perspective. The viewpoint enhances gameplay awareness while showcasing cosmetic effects and animations applied to player avatars.
Gameplay Highlights
- Two main modes: PvP (Hunter vs Survivors) and PvE (Story mode).
- Dynamic arenas with interactive elements like wall-running surfaces and elevating pistons.
- Each character has unique active and passive abilities with cooldown mechanics.
- Players can create and share custom maps with the community.
Inspiration & Aesthetic
The in-game UI draws inspiration from Dead by Daylight (Survivor UI) with adjusted camera angles for fair play, while the visual style takes cues from Cyberpunk 2077—featuring neon lighting, dystopian architecture, and a futuristic atmosphere.
Online & Multiplayer Features
- Hunter Mode: One player hunts down three survivors.
- Escapist Mode: Three-player co-op survival against one hunter.
- Custom Mode: Private lobbies for friends or community tournaments with map sharing.
Technology Highlights
- Designed for Unreal Engine 5 using TSR rendering for performance scalability.
- Advanced animation system with skeletal and rig-based animation for smooth parkour motion.
- Integrated VoIP communication and spatial surround sound for immersive chases.
- Planned use of procedural map variation for replayability.
Art & Audio Direction
The cyberpunk atmosphere is supported by cinematic lighting, dynamic shadows, and motion-captured cutscenes. Sound design plays a key role—players hear heartbeat cues when being chased and predatory tones when near a hunter. The project’s envisioned soundtrack takes inspiration from Cyberpunk 2077’s composers Marcin Przybyłowicz, Paul Leonard-Morgan, and P.T. Adamczyk to evoke intensity and emotion.
